Mom and Dad in Labor

We spend so much time talking about pain in labor, knowing when it's real labor versus false labor and all the things that can go wrong in labor. What we rarely talk is the fact that sometimes, labor is simply boring. Most of us aren't prepared to deal with the hours of non-activity that can be labor, particularly in early labor.

Did you find any of your labor boring? How did you fill the time?

Time Lapsed Pregnancy

Using the pregnancy calendar to follow your baby and body's growth in pregnancy week by week is fun, but it's also important to realize that there are a lot of options. This pregnancy calendar is useful to moms of singletons and twins, it also has a special area for par enters too.

If week by week is too much, you can also follow along with the month by month pregnancy calendar. Some of the other ways you can use it, other than simply reading it online, is to use it to show your children how your baby is growing. The ultrasound pictures always captivate my kids and they have some one-on-one time to ask questions about the new baby. It was their favorite day of the week and quickly became a fun ritual as we awaited a new sibling.

Positive Pregnancy Test and Monthly Calendar

This week is National Infertility Awareness Week. The theme is Don't Ignore Infertility. One of the ways that you can do this is to know your menstrual cycle.

There are plenty of reasons to track a lot of things in our lives.  Sometimes I feel overwhelmed with all that I need to pay attention to every day.  Though tracking your menstrual cycle has many practical applications to your life, even when you aren't trying to get pregnant.

Do you keep track?

Spilling Food on Pregnant Belly

Having a big bump for a pregnant belly sounds like it will be a lot of fun. One of the most frequent questions I get is: "When will I show?" Having a big round belly, preferably without stretch marks, is something most pregnant women look forward to getting. It's fun, until it's not.

Now I'm not complaining terribly, but having a big belly certainly gets in the way. There is the whole spilling your food all over your belly. Serious, when I am pregnant, I think I should use a bib with all the food that I drop down my shirt. (After the baby is born, I usually spill food on the baby!) I've also been known to bump my belly into things, not realizing how big I was.

So in what crazy ways has your belly gotten in the way or been annoying?

About Pregnancy & Childbirth: Saving the Earth One Diaper at a Time

Cloth Diapered Baby

So for Earth Day, I thought I'd take a minute to talk to you about saving the Earth, one diaper at a time. If you are pregnant, then diapers are something you've probably given at least a slight amount of to. They will become a large part of your life after you give birth, as babies tend to use about 8-12 diapers a day.

So in the day of reduce, reuse and recycle, cloth diapers are back as the eco-friendly way to diaper your baby. I'm not here to argue that cloth diapers are great for the environment, though they are much better than their disposable counterparts. I think it's important to look at cloth diapers form the viewpoint of saving money.

That's right, using cloth diapers is a great way to save you money. When you consider that you can purchase every diaper you would ever need (and then some) for $200-300, you've only spent 10 weeks worth of disposable diaper money. The real issue for most people is the initial outlay of money for cloth diapers.

So if you haven't taken a look at cloth diapers recently, or you think that they still involve really scary looking diaper pins - think again and have a look at today's new eco-friendly, cost saving diapers that make babies and parents happy. (Did I mention how cute some of the new cloth diapers are? I'm seriously loving these cute prints on the All-in-One cloth diapers I bought in bulk at a discount store!)
