Being pregnant provides you with some great excuses for an awesome costume.  If you're like me, you always want to have a great costume, but run out of time or ideas.  You could simply just buy a fun t-shirt like the one above. I found this on Etsy. I think it's really unique looking and you could get away with it for Halloween or even just a regular Maternity outfit. Making your own Halloween costume? Pregnancy Loss Remembrance and Awareness Oct 15th 2012, 10:18 What constitutes a pregnancy loss? Pregnancy loss is a term that gets thrown around a lot and can mean different things to different people. For some it is defined by the stage of gestation at which a pregnancy ends and the baby dies. Another family might define pregnancy loss in terms of planning, as in, the pregnancy was planned and ended early without a baby, excluding miscarriages where the pregnancy wasn't planned. The truth is, pregnancy loss is as you define it. It doesn't mean that you can ever be "too early" in pregnancy to be "allowed" to grieve. It doesn't mean that if you weren't planning a pregnancy and got pregnant that you should refrain from being sad. It doesn't even mean that if you didn't know you were pregnant until you experienced a loss that you don't "qualify." Pregnancy loss is in your heart. Do you hold in your heart a baby that is no longer here with you, however you want to define that? If the answer is yes, then you should consider how to grieve that loss and celebrate that life, no matter how brief. Today, October 15th is set aside as a day of remembrance for pregnancy loss. (This is a yearly day of remembrance.) Who do you hold in your heart and how will you celebrate their life? Men and Pregnancy Loss Oct 13th 2012, 10:08 So much time and attention is given to mothers after a pregnancy loss, but men suffer too.  Here's what one dad had to say: "What greatness might the future have held for you and your baby? The overwhelming sense of loss of the unknown can eat away at your psyche, as easily as termites eat through wood, leaving behind a fragile shell, with all of your future plans taken away, leaving nothing but a vacuous void. The loss of what might have been can be as great as any pain you have ever felt. In the shadow of such pain and loss, how can anything you say or do possibly make you partner's grief any less?" Even with the pain of his own that you can hear in his words, he knows that he is also being held to the societal standard of caring for the mother of his child.  What a weight that must be to bear for men who are suffering too... What's your advice or how have you dealt with a pregnancy loss as a man or for men? Baby Wearing Oct 11th 2012, 09:14 It's International Baby Wearing Week, but more importantly - if you're pregnant or if you have a new baby, you've got to figure out how to baby wear.  Seriously, it was so amazing once I figured it out. I felt like someone gave me a third hand.  Not to mention my babies cried less when I carried them. It was a win-win situation for everyone. The really cool thing was that my husband totally loved baby wearing. He was also packing the kids around. They enjoyed the daddy snuggled and I enjoyed being alone for a bit. I certainly have my favorite baby carriers, but honestly, it's a personal choice. That's why I've got 10 Baby Carriers for you to look at and read reviews. What are your favorites? Medications Used in Epidurals Tied to Meningitis Outbreak Oct 9th 2012, 19:18 If you've had an epidural recently you may be at risk for meningitis according to the CDC. "The outbreak is linked to contaminated steroid injections, and as many as 13,000 people may have received the medicine between May 21 and September 24, the CDC said." You should talk to your practitioner if you are concerned. You should be able to get a record from the hospital where the medications were made.  You should also familiarize yourself with the signs of meningitis: high fever headache stiff neck nausea/vomiting confusion sleepiness The medication were all made at a facility known as the New England Compounding Center (NECC). They have voluntarily recalled the medications starting last week after multiple deaths were reported. They are based in Massachusetts. Though 23 states are included: Maryland, Tennessee, Michigan, Virginia, Ohio, Indiana, Florida, Minnesota, North Carolina, South Carolina, California, Connecticut, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, New Hampshire, New Jersey, Nevada, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Texas and West Virginia. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .
