Calf Stretch in Pregnancy

I'd read about women having leg cramps and I didn't have a single charlie horse until my fourth baby. I was actually at a conference and sharing the room with another pregnant mom when it happened. If she hadn't been pregnant too she might have thought I was dying I was screaming and hopping around. If leg cramps bother you in pregnancy, or if you're worried about that dreaded charlie horse, try the calf stretch. Doing it just before bed can help you prevent leg cramps from waking you up in the middle of the night howling in pain.

Have you been spared from the dreaded charlie horse?

Newborn Twins

Breastfeeding is the biological norm for feeding babies. When your baby is born early, you may wonder if you can breastfeed or you may encounter issues with breastfeeding, particularly if you need to pump. The good news is, breast milk is still the healthiest thing you can give your premature infant. It's so amazing that it knows what point in gestation your pregnancy ended and the milk is different than had your baby been full term. Think of it as your body's way of making sure your baby has just what he or she needs.

That said, you may have many questions about breastfeeding a premature baby or even how to go about getting started.  Here are some links to help you get started:

Some of the issues that you may encounter may be issues that revolve around pumping. You might want to know what type of breast pump to use, how often to pump or even how to store your breast milk. Other mothers have been there and can share their advice with you, like that above. You may also want to know about getting your baby to the breast after finger feeding, bottle feeding or using a supplemental nursing system (SNS).

World Breastfeeding Week 2012

One of the many questions that mothers have about breastfeeding is whether or not certain medications or drugs can effect her ability to make breast milk, the quality of the breast milk and how it will effect her baby. It can be really hard to find someone who truly knows the answer or who the mother feels that she can talk to about potentially sensitive information.  I'm pleased to offer you the following articles on a variety of medications and drugs written  by Dr. Elizabeth Hartney.

World Breastfeeding Week 2012

August 1-7 every year marks World Breastfeeding Week. This is a time to celebrate breastfeeding, talk about the joys and challenges, thank those who have helped us succeed and encourage others. This year the theme is "Understanding the Past-Planning the Future".

My goal was to bring you many different perspectives on breastfeeding. So I thought a blog carnival would be a great way to do that. While I'll post something all week here, on Facebook and Twitter, this post has the links to lots of people's information on breastfeeding.

Do you have a link?  Put it in the comments!

Girl or Boy: Is that really the point?
Jul 31st 2012, 15:33

Originally the cry for a mid-pregnancy ultrasound was all about the health of the baby. When it was first started, learning if you were having a girl or boy wasn't even a part of it.  Then that changed and moms started to be given this information. While the medical did not bear out the true benefit for every mom to need an ultrasound in mid-pregnancy, women really wanted, saying it was totally about the health of the baby, nothing more.

Girl or Boy? Belly Ribbon

As it's become easier and easier to give an accurate assessment of the sex of a baby, you hear more about the sex of the baby, than baby's health. In fact, I see more and more moms posting that they have scheduled an ultrasound to find out if the baby is a boy or girl, than to learn if baby is healthy. I have even seen moms talk about how annoyed they were that the ultrasound technicians did other assessments first, before getting to the big reveal.

So why did you agree to the mid-pregnancy ultrasound? Or were you one of the few that skipped it?

Boss Was Excited About Pregnancy
Jul 30th 2012, 09:54

Of all the people that you have to tell about your pregnancy, I'm not sure that anyone is as frightening to share with as your boss. Of all the horror stories we hear, I thought I'd share this one with you:

Pregnant woman working at desk

"I found out I was pregnant with my 4th child and I admit it was a shock to say the least. My boss of the childcare center I worked at was elated! My employee benefits ensured that my childcare cost would be next to nothing, my child would go to work with me, and as she said laughingly 'babies are good for our business'. Her good humor made me feel much better about my surprise."

Have you had a positive experience of telling your boss about a pregnancy?
