World Doula Week Mar 25th 2012, 18:34 This week has been declared World Doula Week. The popularity of doulas has risen drastically in the years since I first heard the word.  I think that this is largely due to the influence of these birth assistants and their tireless efforts for moms and their families. People choose doulas for all different reasons.  Sometimes it's about the benefits of having a doula, like a reduction in the cesarean rate or a shorter labor; sometimes it's because a practitioner or friend recommended a doula for a birth; or perhaps it's just what seemed like the right thing to do for you and your labor.
