Baby Shower

Over the years I've fielded a lot of etiquette questions about baby showers.  But one person says that 40+ people boycotted a baby shower because it was short and served only cupcakes, among other reasons:

"The mother to be only wanted cupcakes and punch served at the baby shower, it was at 1:00 pm. This was not a case of not being able to afford the food, she makes it clear she don't want to pay for food. The poor woman that hosted the shower was clearly embarrassed. So please, mom's to be, remember to be thoughtful of your guests. They are taking time out of their busy day to honor you and your baby. One last comment, yes your guest talk, and they tell others of their experiences."

I don't know that I've ever had conversation like this with other people.  I'm more likely to talk about a weird baby shower game, but I don't know that I do a lot of comparing baby showers.  What about you?
